patience

The word of the month at FES for April is “PATIENCE”. Students are learning that patience means:

  • being still and focused (not antsy, wiggly, or fidgety)

  • taking your time when doing things

  • waiting your turn to speak or do something

  • waiting quietly on someone to finish talking or completing a task

  • showing good sportsmanship (For example: You may have to run after the ball many times before you actually catch it.)

  • setting a goal and working hard to achieve that goal (For example: Multiplication tables)

  • giving others their own time and space (Sometimes even best friends need a little break from each other.)

  • waiting, tolerating and forgiving

  • not easily provoked - Controlled temper

  • remaining calm during stressful situations

Here are some practical ways to teach patience to children:

  1. Share your own stories about learning to delay gratification and working toward important goals.

  2. Build the value of “patient waiting”

  3. Model patience out loud

  4. Create lots of small opportunities for patience

  5. Play waiting games

  6. Work toward a goal

  7. Notice and affirm the child’s efforts

Let’s practice patience Bearcats…But most importantly…..BE KIND!
