Khary Orr is in his 24th year as an educator and has served in the Forest Municipal School District since 2017. Prior to his arrival at Forest High School, he served as the head tennis coach at Powell Middle School from 2002-2004 where his teams finished with an 8-2 overall record and won the JPS City Championship in 2004. He then made his way to Terry High School and became the head tennis and assistant boys’ soccer coach in 2006. His tennis teams won Division 6-5A championships in 2008 and 2010 and qualified for the 5A team state tournament. He was also named as the 2009 Mississippi Association of Coaches South All-Star Tennis Coach. Coach Orr was named the head boys’ soccer coach of the Bulldogs in 2007 and led them to division titles in 2008-2011, 2014, and 2015. His teams from 2013-2015 amassed an overall record 49-10-6, and the 2014 team finished with an undefeated regular season record of 16-0-3. They also had a state ranking of #3 and a MaxPreps national ranking of #49. In 2014, he coached the 2014 Wendy’s Mississippi High School Heisman winner and then coached the 2015 Gatorade Mississippi Boys’ Soccer Player of the Year. Coach Orr was hired by the Forest Municipal School District in 2017 to replace legendary soccer coach, Trey Butts. In his first year, he led the boys’ soccer team to a Division 5, Class I championship and a playoff berth. From that point on, the Bearcats would win division championships and make playoff appearances in 2019, 2020, and 2022. Despite his only losing season in 2021 as the boys’ head coach, Coach Orr was named as the Mississippi Association of Coaches South Boys’ All-Star Coach and led the South All-Stars to a 5-1 victory over the North All-Stars. He also led the Lady Bearcats soccer team to an overall record of 58-50-2, highlighted by consecutive division championships and state quarterfinal appearances in 2022 and 2023. Coach Orr was named as the FMSD Assistant Director of Athletics in 2020, and he was then named as the Director of Athletics in 2021. Since Coach Orr assumed the AD position, he has been responsible for many facilities upgrades and other prominent projects. New scoreboards have been installed at L. O. Atkins Field, the baseball stadium, and the HMS gym. New backstops have been installed at both gymnasiums, and Forest Football has been the subject of two books; Magnolia Gridiron Cathedrals by Nash Nunnery and Forest Football 1925-2010 by Delvan Irwin. Coach Orr is a 1999 graduate of Mississippi Valley State University and a 2008 graduate of Belhaven College. He is also a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., the Mississippi Valley State University Jackson-Hinds Alumni Chapter, and the Mississippi Association of Athletic Administrators.
